Robert Chase Heishman holds an MFA in Studio Art from Northwestern University (2012) and a BFA in Photography and Art History from Kansas City Art Institute (2008). His work has been exhibited at BEEFHAUS (Dallas), McIntosh Gallery (London, ON), The Tetley (Leeds, UK), H&R Block Artspace and Paragraph Gallery (Kansas City), Propeller Centre for Visual Arts (Toronto, ON), and widely around Chicago at Sullivan Galleries, LVL3, Roots & Culture, Document, and Johalla Projects. Recent grants and awards include participation in the 2016 Silver Eye Editions from Silver Eye Center for Photography (Pittsburgh) and a 2015 project grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events. He has collaborated with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Radiohead, and Sigur Rós. His work is in the permanent collections of the BNY Mellon Collection, Walker Art Center, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Heishman is the co-founder and director of Private Birthday Party, a research and preservation initiative for a collection of historical photographic slides documenting the underground drag culture in Kansas City in the 1950s and ‘60s. Heishman lives and works in Chicago, where he teaches at Northern Illinois University.
